About Your Committee

President: Tony Hystek :

Started paddling in the late 70’s, by paddling the Snowy River and getting wrapped around a rock in one of the first plastic kayaks ever made (horrible!). Survived that, and paddled as much of anything as possible till the early 90’s, when teaching and running my own business forced me off the water. Returned to Marathon in 2006, with the Hawkesbury Classic the target. Member of Lane Cove River Kayakers and keen to make up for lost time. Looking after things of a general nature at PaddleNSW.

Secretary: Lynn Parker : Recreational and Canoe Polo

I live for paddling - but definitely NOT for racing nor "time trials" as an excuse for not racing. I keep the Committee reminded about all things recreational - especially if it involves touring, camping and lots of whitewater. Coming to paddling and the River Canoe Club when the kids could barely walk taught us all to either paddle well or drown. But drown we did not, with 2 of the 3 kids doing their family proud when representing Australia in Freestyle and Slalom. Retirement certainly beats the TAFE system and has allowed me the time to notch up some great overseas rivers. When allowed "holidays" from the PaddleNSW office I would like to introduce the first POSE(PaddleNSW OverSeas Explorers)  trip to Nepal in October.

Vice President: Tim Hookins : Public Officer and Ocean Racing

Tim Hookins has done 7 Hawkesbury Classics, and finished 6. Done the Murray. Done the Fish River Whitewater Marathon in South Africa, done Miller’s Run and Milnerton run Ocean Ski events in South Africa. President of Lane Cove River Kayakers for two terms, was on the Committee for 5 years. Now Vice Chairman of PaddleNSW. Age 59. Registered Architect and Director of Add-Style Home Additions, a Building Company, in his spare time. Married to Judy, 4 kids, only one of whom paddles. Future projects include the Molokai Ocean Race in Hawaii in May. Focusing on Ocean Racing now, though still a regular at the Marathon Series.

Committee: Liz Wilson : Sprint

Committee: Chris Thompson: Slalom and Wildwater

Early 40's father who became involved in sport when eldest son Zachary entered the Beyond Beijing Talent Identification Squad. Have since become a member of Penrith Valley Canoe Club, Slalom Australia (formerly the Slalom Technical Committee). My earliest involvement in paddle sports was in a home made K2 paddling down parts of the Darling River (around Bourke) at the age of about 11. Now involved primarily with Slalom and support of my three of four children, aged 11, 15 & 18 who compete at most slalom events throughout NSW and National competitions.
