Open Water


Manly Warringah Kayak Club will host the ‘Stroke the Lion’ race on Saturday 21st June from Bayview Park. Race starts at 9am.


There is  both the short and long course available for paddlers, plus the addition of a female double ski to the race categories.


With free hot soup, bread rolls & drinks why not come along for a great morning of racing on the beautiful Pittwater waterway north of Sydney?

Thermal imaging shows the way to a safer Sydney Harbour

Sydney sailors will be happy to know that Harbour City Ferries has equipped its entire fleet with FLIR M320L thermal imaging cameras to further improve safety on the waters of Sydney. Sydney’s ferries have been servicing Sydney Harbour for more than 135 years.

Race Report - Bay Runner 2014

For anyone who wants to organise an Open Water Race be prepared for stress! You want good weather, clear skies are nice. The wind to blow from the right direction and some swell as well. I have tried to pray and use karma where possible it is often just a dream. 
Today someone must have said the right words for us.

Cockatoo Cup 2014

The Cockatoo Cupcake Cup is a short and long course single craft (mostly) race around Cockatoo Island, Spectacle Island and Rodd Island, with the emphasis of fun as well as competitiveness.  The short course is approximately 7km and the Long course is 14km.


South African paddler Jasper Mocke successfully defended his “Doctor” Surfski title last weekend in Perth, in the second race on the 2014 World Surfski Series. This win gives him a strong lead early in the World Series.

Kayaking is a great sport for 70 year olds ~ Justin Paine

In my club, Lane Cove River Kayakers, there is a bunch of guys who are refusing to let encroaching age diminish the vigour and determination with which they attack their paddling. They’re fun to be with, they’re always in a good mood and they are setting a benchmark for older members of the sport.

Wollongong paddlers weigh up World Champs


Four Wollongong paddlers have until Monday to accept an invitation to compete for Australia at the inaugural Open Ocean Kayaking World Championships in Portugal.

Mackenzie Hynard, Hannah Minogue and husband and wife Cade and Trudi Barnes were selected in the national team to be part of the July 12-14 event.
