Dubbo Group skill up on the Macquarie River

Nine participants from all over the west came to Dubbo to hone their skills for Guiding on the Macquarie River. Trainer/Assessor, Ian Royds put them through some tough scenarios to ensure they left with a good grasp of the risks involved with paddling our rivers, sometimes with more water than usual, a common occurrence of late.  This group identified the need for training, and called on PaddleNSW to conduct the course.  They came from Environmental Education Centres, the Lachlan CMA and the local canoe clubs.  "I was really impressed by this lovely group, many mature aged, plunging into the whitewater to practice swimming the 'strainer', a scenario to develop awareness of the dangers of logs in rivers", declares Lynn Parker who organised the training for PaddleNSW.
